History was brought to life in Chesterfield Township on June 10 and 11.

The Chesterfield Township Historical Society hosted the Lac Ste. Claire Voyageurs and “History Alive! A Timeline of Historical Reenactors” at the historical village on Sugarbush Road. Reenactors and historians dressed in period clothing set up encampments and displays throughout the village grounds to educate families about everything from the early days of the fur trade through the war on global terror.

Also on June 10, the Chesterfield Township Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual Sundaes and Sunshine Social on the municipal office grounds, located adjacent to the historical village. The free family event included a petting zoo, visits with the Chesterfield Township Fire Department, music, ice cream and more.

The Chesterfield Township Historical Society is planning to host a handful of other events this summer, including the following:

• Michigan Log Cabin Day: The log cabin at historical village will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 25. Hands-on activities are also planned. The log cabin was moved to the historical village from its former location in undeveloped woods in Washington Township in 2005. The interior and exterior of the log cabin have been restored. Period furnishings have been donated by local residents. Along with the log cabin, a pump house and a very unusual spiral shaped outhouse were also acquired.

• World War II reenactment: The historical society will host the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society for a public demonstration of authentic WWII combat, encampment life and vehicle displays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 8 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9. The event will feature both an Allied and Axis encampment for public displays with two public battles at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. Military vehicles will also be on display. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The entrance fee is a donation of $1 per person or $2 for a family.
