How Vermont fared vs. New Hampshire

Vermont and New Hampshire duked it out in four Twin State contests this past weekend.

Field hockey and girls and boys lacrosse took place at Hanover High School while Norwich University was the site for baseball.

Rivalry showdowns for hockey (July 1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse) and soccer (July 15 at at Hanover) are scheduled for later this summer. The Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl is slated for Aug. 5 at Castleton.

Vermont baseball blows past New Hampshire

Vermont baseball has earned the Twin State’s crown for the second straight year.

The Green Mountain State raced to a 15-0, nine-inning win over New Hampshire on Saturday morning at Norwich University.

Vermont led 7-0 after three innings and broke it open with a four–run fifth frame for the third consecutive all-star game win since the game returned last summer. VT used five pitchers, including Evan Dennis of Blue Mountain, who started and allowed one hit over two innings. The shutout was the first in seven classics since the rivalry was renewed under its current format in 2015.

Dennis, who was named as Vermont’s most valuable player, had an RBI triple and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. While U-32’s Shane Starr hit a three-run home run to highlight an 11-hit day for the Green Mountain State. Malakai Callahan of Colchester and Trevor Arsenault of Spaulding had RBI-doubles and Burr and Burton’s Trevor Greene also hit a two-bagger.

All 18 players for Vermont reached base at least once. While Lyndon’s Austin Wheeler, CVU’s Chris Robinson and Evan Lamothe of South Burlington each tossed a pair of clean innings. Mount Anthony’s Connor Hannan set down New Hampshire in the ninth striking out a pair.

New Hampshire was held to just four singles at the plate. Karter Deming of White Mountains Regional was named the MVP for New Hampshire.

The all-star festivities were originally slated for a seven-inning doubleheader, but was reduced to one nine-inning game due to inclement weather.
