Huddersfield school forced to close on Thursday after Travellers turn up on field – statement in full

A school in Huddersfield has announced it has been forced to close on Thursday after a group of Travellers turned up on their playing fields.

All Saints School, in Huddersfield, will be closing its doors to the majority of its pupils after the group moved in to their school field. According to the school, all pupils, barring the Year 11 pupils taking their GCSE History exam and their Year 10 students on an art trip, will not be able to attend the school.

In a statement issued to parents, they said: “Unfortunately, our school fields are currently being occupied by travellers. We have no choice other than to close the school tomorrow to all students, except the Year 11 students taking their GCSE History Exam and the Year 10 students on the art trip, which will both take place as planned.

“Students should arrive to school at their normal time and come straight in to reception. Buses will be arriving as normal and staff will be supervising at all times.

“Work is available on the student portal for all subjects. Please encourage your child to undertake a learning task for their timetabled lessons.

“We will update you tomorrow with news regarding Friday. Thank you.”
