IN THE DOCK: The latest cases from Swindon’s courts

WALCOT: Richard Martin, of Lennox Drive, has pleaded guilty to assault and harassment.

The 47-year-old breached a restraining order by contacting a woman on June 17, and assaulted the same woman and a police officer on the same date.

He received a community order requiring him to carry out six months of alcohol treatment and up to 15 days of rehab activities. Martin must pay £114 to fund victim services.

GORSE HILL: Daniel Fellows, of Beatrice Street, admitted to assault by beating.

The 35-year-old assaulted a woman and intentionally strangled a man in Swindon on September 6, 2022.

He must pay £50 in compensation to the woman and £125 in compensation to the man, and carry out up to 45 days of rehabilitation activities.

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: Joseph Richards, of St Stephen Road in St Austell, has pleaded guilty to driving offences.

The 28-year-old drove a Citroen Relay panel van on Swindon Road in Royal Wootton Bassett on January 25 while disqualified from driving and without having insurance.

There were two front seat passengers and one passenger in the rear of the van with no seat or seat belt or restraint when there were builders’ tools and equipment which, the court record suggests, posed great danger to the passenger in that its use involved a danger of injury to any person.

Richards received a 12-week jail sentence, which has been suspended for 18 months because of the effect on the defendant’s family if immediate custody is ordered, and will not activate unless he commits another offence during this time.

The court record added that the reason for advising imprisonment was that “the offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified… because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders”.

The 61-year-old beat a man at the Sir Daniel Arms pub on May 16, and must pay £120 in compensation to his victim.

SWINDON: A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has indicated a plea of guilty to criminal damage.

The defendant caused £530 worth of damage to Collaborative Care Services on February 25.

He has been referred to a youth offender panel for four months.

TOOTHILL: Daniel Ambrose, of Conisborough, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 23-year-old drove a Volkswagen Passatt along Circencester Way on September 2, 2022 without insurance and with a front offside tyre that had a ply or cord exposed.

SWINDON: Zain Lorgat, of Coventry Street in Coventry, has been sentenced for a driving offence.
