Klopp summer target opens up on future plans and reveals hopes for next club

Alexis Mac Allister insists he is unconcerned about the hype surrounding a possible move to Liverpool but stressed he is ambitious to win silverware.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an outstanding season for Brighton, helping the south-coast club to sixth in the table. He bagged ten goals and was the driving force in midfield for the Amex Stadium outfit. And he also managed to pick up a World Cup-winners’ medal as Argentina beat France to lift the prestigious trophy in December last year.

The Seagulls will play in the Europa League next term after winning 18 of their top-flight games. But it seems inevitable that Mac Allister will not be part of their European adventure.

Multiple reports have claimed that the Reds are close to sealing a deal for the South American ace.

It was suggested on Wednesday that the former Boca Juniors loan star had agreed personal terms with the Merseysiders.

And all that was left was for Liverpool and Brighton to agree on his fee. Those negotiations are expected to be concluded sooner rather than later, with the Seagulls receiving close to £70m.

Mac Allister’s name has barely been off the back pages in recent days. But he appeared unfazed about the scenario when speaking to Infobae.

“I am very calm because I also have the possibility of being in a club like Brighton that accompanied me at all times and in which I really enjoy being,” he said.

“If I do not have to leave the club I will continue to be very happy there, but I am aware that there are possibilities (to move) and if a good offer arrives for the club and for me we will evaluate it.”

Mac Allister loving the Premier League life

Mac Allister signed for Brighton in January 2019 but was loaned back to Argentinos Juniors for the remainder of 2018-2019.

He made his Brighton debut in March 2020 and enjoyed just nine appearances during that Covid-interrupted campaign.

However, the man with 16 Argentina caps was a regular in the first team the following season. He bagged five goals from 33 top-flight outings under Graham Potter.

Taking his game to another level in 2022-23, he enjoyed 31 starts from 35 Premier League appearances, notching ten goals.

And it seems as though English football is tailor-made for the Santa Rosa-born star.

“I have no doubts that (the Premier League) is the best league to play in and that is why I am aware that I would like my next club to be in the Premier,” he added.

“I really enjoy being there.”

Mac Allister outlines career ambitions

Chelsea have also been linked with Mac Allister but most things point to Liverpool getting their man.

The Reds endured a poor season by their recent high standards and will have to make do with Europa League football.

Jurgen Klopp will not want a repeat of their troubled campaign next term, with the top priority a return to the top four.

And it seems as though Mac Allister shares those hopes.

“The objective is to continue improving as a person, as a player, to win more titles,” he continued.

“I think this is my short-term objective and it will always be, because I will always be the same person and I will want to be a little better than the day before, so I focus a lot on that.

“I’m not going to complain, I’m 24 years old, I’m a world champion. I play in one of the best leagues in the world and I feel that my career is growing.

“But I still have my feet on the ground and I really want to improve, becoming a better person and better player every day. We’ll see what the future brings.”
