Live updates as armed police block off road and shout ‘get back in the house’

A Liverpool road is this evening blocked off due to an ongoing police incident.

Armed police are at the scene on Rawcliffe Road, which has been cordoned off. An eyewitness told The ECHO people are being told to leave the street and armed officers were heard yelling ‘get back in the house’ to one occupant.

Merseyside Police Force Incident Manager said officers were called at 5.47pm to reports of a firearms incident.

People told to ‘keep their doors locked’

Earlier this evening, when it was suspected a man had a gun, residents were apparently told to ‘keep their doors locked’ by police, a witness has told us.

Cordon is being lifted

The cordon which earlier blocked off both ends of the road has now been lifted.

Police however remain at the scene.

House to house enquiries being made

Police can now be seen on the street making door to door enquiries.

A statement earlier has confirmed police were called to reports of a man with a suspected gun.

No arrests have been made but police are remaining on the road to speak to residents who will quite rightly be shaken from this evening’s events.

Police have confirmed no arrests have been made at the scene.

Witnesses said they didn’t see anyone being removed from the house that armed police entered.

Man seen with suspected gun

We have receieved a statement from Merseyside Police regarding the incident.

A sokesperson said: “We received a report at around 5.50pm today (Tuesday 6 June) that a man had been seen in possession of a suspected firearm on Rawcliffe Road, in Walton.

“Armed officers were deployed to the scene and a road closure was put in place.

“No firearm was found and no arrests have been made.

“The incident has now been stood down as a firearms incident, but our enquiries are ongoing.”

We are still waiting for more specific details from Merseyide Police in regards to the incident.

The Force Incident Manager told us earlier they were called to reports of a “firearms” incident.

People told to “get back inside their homes”

Another person living on the road said they saw police vehicles arrive and officers were shouting to people to “get back inside”

Witnesses heard shouting to occupant of house

Witnesses at the scene heard shouting being directed to an occupant in a house.

A witness said: “They was shouting get back in the house, go back up the stairs on their way in”

Pictures sent in show armed officers stood at the door of a house on Rawcliffe Road.

It is not known if any arrests have been made or if the house is at the centre of the incident.
