The huge profits Brighton made off Arsenal and Chelsea with Liverpool and Man United next

The huge profits Brighton made off Arsenal and Chelsea with Liverpool and Man United next

Brighton’s transfer policy has been the envy of the Premier League, making millions and still putting the big boys to shame.

The south-coast side might be one of the smaller teams in the divisions but they have been happy to spoil the party, chasing down a European spot for the first time in their history.

Brighton were sensational at the Emirates Stadium winning 3-0 on Sunday

The Seagulls have landed victories over Arsenal and Chelsea twice this season while also taking their money in the transfer window.

Brighton have also beaten Manchester United and Liverpool this season – and now they are next in line to try prise away their best players.

Despite the key stars at the Amex Stadium seemingly flowing out of the club on a regular basis, the transfer department seem to unearth a new gem immediately.

Leandro Trossard has left? Hello, Julio Ensico! Lose Marc Cucurella? Welcome, Pervis Estupinan!

So how much money have Brighton made in recent history – and who could leave next?

White joined Arsenal for £50m from Brighton, where he came up through their academy

Benjamin White started the trend in the summer of 2021 when Mikel Arteta made him a top target at Arsenal, forking out £50million for his services.

As the centre-back had come up through the Brighton academy, this was all pure profit for the club on the books while on Sunday, the Seagulls had the last laugh.

White left the pitch dizzy after being turned inside out by Kaoru Mitoma for 90 minutes as Brighton won 3-0 at the Emirates, ending their title ambitions in the process.

Leandro Trossard, bought for £18m, sold for £30m

Arsenal did not stop there plundering the Sussex coastline, and in January they paid £30m for wantaway star Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian was bought for £18m from Genk in 2019, giving them a tidy little profit of £12m.

Caicedo could be on his way to Arsenal

Moises Caicedo, bought for £4m, priced at £80m

The Gunners look set to go for the hat-trick this summer with Moises Caicedo high on their wish list.

They tried in January but were denied but Brighton might not be able to resist another big-money bid in the coming weeks, though they expect at least £80m.

Landing that kind of fee would be a record for the Seagulls, who only paid Ecuador side Independiente del Valle £4m in the winter transfer window of 2021 – giving them a wickedly steep increase of £76m in 18 months.

But Arsenal are not the only club to pour their wallet out at the Amex Stadium as Chelsea went on a raid led by the free-spending Todd Boehly.

Marc Cucurella, bought for £15m, sold for £62m

Cucurella was at Brighton for one year before joining Chelsea

Marc Cucurella, who won Brighton’s player of the year award in his debut campaign at the club, was signed for £62m, £47m more than the £15m that was spent on the left-back 12 months before when he was at Getafe.

Chelsea also pinched half the backroom staff, including manager Graham Potter, as well as director Paul Winstanley.

And as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to arrive as the latest coach under Boehly, the Argentine has set his sights on his countryman Alexis Mac Allister, destined to leave Brighton this summer after helping his country win the World Cup.

However, whether the Blues can snap up the midfielder remains to be seen with his ambitions to play in the Champions League, making the battle for fourth essentially a battle for his signature.

Alexis Mac Allister, bought for £7m, priced at £80m

United and Liverpool are both interested in Mac Allister while the Red Devils currently lead their rivals by a point in fourth, though they have a game in hand.

Brighton star Mac Allister is another player who is attracting big interest

But signing the 24-year-old will not be cheap when Brighton chief and poker whiz Tony Bloom is in town, who seems to hold all the cards at all times.

Mac Allister has been priced at £80m, the same as Caicedo, potentially making this a very lucrative summer indeed, especially considering the Argentina international cost just £7m from Argentinos Juniors in 2019.

From the players mentioned here and those sold already, Brighton have made £109m in profit – but if Caicedo and Mac Allister are sold for their asking prices, that number would swell to £258m.

And with several emerging stars already in the making at the Amex Stadium, such as Ensico and Facundo Buonanotte, it is almost assured that the millions will continue to roll in.
