New exhibition celebrating food, culture and wellbeing launching in Liverpool

A new exhibition is launching in Liverpool this weekend aiming to celebrate communities and their relationship between food, culture, identity and how important this is for wellbeing.

Launching this Saturday, May 20 ‘Good Food; Our Food’ by Feeding Liverpool and Merseyside Polonia at the Black-E on Great George Street. Liverpool’s Good Food Plan is led by their lead partners Feeding Liverpool who have been asking the question: “What does Good Food mean to you?”.

For many, it means eating their cultural food and traditions surrounding food are important to wellbeing through a sense of shared identity, community, and heritage. They have built the collection of stories through interviews and photographs, by Emma Case and worked with community groups across Liverpool.

Naomi Maynard, Feeding Liverpool director, told the ECHO: “At Feeding Liverpool we believe local people should have the power and resources to shape their local food environments and the food system as a whole. Over the last two years we’ve heard from residents how good food can make us feel empowered, dignified, connected, joyful, nostalgic and that it’s important that everyone in our city can enjoy good food.

“Good Food; Our Food brings to life good food stories from communities in a powerful and provocative way, whilst inviting each of us to join the conversation to explore what good food means to you”.

Liverpool’s Good Food Plan addresses key issues including acute hunger, chronic food insecurity, access to and take-up of healthy nutritious food and the sustainability of food supply in Liverpool. Since 2015 Feeding Liverpool has been tackling hunger and food insecurity and have been driving the Good Food Plan in partnership with communities and organisations throughout Liverpool.
