Norwich: Dereham Road junction consultation launched
A series of works have been proposed by Norfolk County Council for Dereham Road between Cadge Road and Norwich Road.
Work would see a new bus, taxi and cycle lane leading out of the city on Dereham Road between Cadge Road and Larkman Lane, new advanced stop lines for bicycles on Larkman Lane and Marl Pit Lane and wider crossings built.
As well as reducing congestion, it is hoped the plans will encourage people to cycle, walk or use public transport.

New bus shelters, wider pavements, a new car club bay and the introduction of time-limited parking at the parade of shops on Dereham Road are also in the plans.
The council says work would require the shortening or removal of right turn lanes in surrounding roads and moving a pedestrian island to accommodate the new bus lane.
A new island has been proposed in its place further along Dereham Road.
But Labour county councillor for the Wensum ward, Maxine Webb, said she was disappointed in the short consultation period.

She said: “I would encourage as many people as possible to respond to the consultation and have their say about these proposals.
“I’m disappointed that my requests to increase the very short consultation period, and to hold a public meeting for residents have both been refused, so it’s really important that people in the area get their views in to ensure they are heard.”

The scheme will be funded by £32m of government cash from the Transforming Cities Fund and Graham Plant, the Conservative-controlled council’s cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport, hopes it will progress.
He said: “These latest proposals support our mission to encourage walking, cycling and greater use of public transport and meet our longer-term goals to reduce congestion and pollution across the county.”
