DIVISION II

Big Red wins big to move on

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red baseball team opened its tournament run with an 11-0 victory in five innings over visiting Beaver Local in the sectional semifinals Monday at the Crimson Complex.

Big Red, the No. 12 seed, advances to travel to No. 2 Tri-Valley in the sectional final today.

For Big Red, Zach Smith had a single, double and two RBIs, Cooper Blackburn had a single, double and three RBIs and Lee Sewell went 3 for 3 with a triple.

Nolan Blackburn fired all five innings on the mound for Big Red, striking out two, scattering four singles and not issuing a walk.

Cole Bowers scored on a passed ball to open the scoring in the second, Sewell then made it 2-0 by scoring on a wild pitch.

Smith then doubled and plated a pair of runs to push the lead to 4-0, then Cooper Blackburn drove in two more with a two-out, two-run single to make it 6-0 Big Red after two.

Cal Beadling drove in Sewell with a groundout in the third, then Bubby Reese put a ball in play and a two-out error allowed Brody Saccoccia to cross and make it 8-0.

Also in the third inning, Smith scored on a wild pitch, Reese scored on a passed ball and Cooper Blackburn knocked an RBI double to provide the final margin.

Buckeye Local comes back to advance

CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local got off the deck and scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get past Claymont, 5-4, in the sectional semifinals at Bill Mazeroski Field on Monday.

Jacob Berry worked the seventh and recorded three strikeouts and then watched his offense earn him a pitching win.

Michael Griffin had two hits, while Haydn Boyce, Jesse Meddles and Kaleb Stang also had an RBI each.

The Panthers, now 9-15 and the No. 15 seed, are back in action today at No. 4 St. Clairsville with a berth in the district tournament on the line.

DIVISION III

Edison wins to advance

RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team started its tournament run with a 6-4 victory over visiting West Muskingum at home on Monday in a sectional semifinal.

The Wildcats, the No. 5 seed, travel to No. 1 Fort Frye in the sectional final on Wednesday. Edison is now 19-8 on the season.

After going up 2-0 in the first, Edison rallied from a 3-2 deficit with a four-run fourth inning.

Brayden Moses had two singles and two RBIs, Matt Parsons had a single and drove in two runs, while Hunter Rotchacker and Liam Watson each drove in a run and singled.

Parsons went six innings on the mound, striking out five.

Harrison Central edges Ridgewood

CADIZ — After falling to Ridgewood in the district championship last year, Harrison Central got a little revenge on Monday by edging the Generals 1-0 in a sectional semifinal at Bob Mazeroski Field.

Braden Cook drove in Tucker Snyder with a sac fly in the second inning and the Huskies pitching staff made that run stand up.

Wyatt Pierce got the mound win with four strikeouts. Kaden Jurosko worked the seventh to record the save.

The Huskies, the No. 4 seed, advance to host No. 8 Martins Ferry in the sectional final on Wednesday.

DIVISION IV

Toronto tames Bulldogs to move on

TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team’s quest to extend its record sectional winning streak started off successful on Monday as the Red Knights pulled away from visiting Bridgeport, 17-2, in the sectional semifinals Monday at the Knights Baseball Complex.

The Red Knights, the No. 3 seed, will host No. 8 Newcomerstown on Wednesday in the sectional final.

Dom Bouscher had a home run, a double, single and five RBIs, Mike Henry also homered and drove in two runs, Caden McGrath tripled, hit two singles and drove in a run, Zeb Kinsey had two singles and an RBI, Zane Kinsey drove in a run and singled and Blake Close had a double, single and three RBIs.

On the mound, Logan Sloane went three innings for the win, fanning one. Cole Barcus fired the final two innings with four strikeouts.

Catholic Central’s season concludes

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central baseball team’s strong season came to a tough end on Monday with a 2-0 loss to visiting Monroe Central in the sectional semifinals, just its second loss of the season.

Central, the No. 2 seed, concludes its season with a mark of 20-2.

Monroe Central, the No. 13 seed, advances to face No. 6 Strasburg on Wednesday.

Kody Carver and Eli Fayak each had a single for the Crusaders. Andrew Dorsey struck out four in four scoreless innings after getting the start on the mound, and Alex Solema struck out three over the final three innings. Just one of the runs was earned.

The Seminoles’ Jake Winland tossed a complete game shutout, fanning 12 and allowing just two hits. Monroe scored a run each in the fifth and sixth.
