HARTFORD — The Hartford softball team continued to stay hot at the plate on Tuesday with an 11-1 victory over Oshkosh North in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal.
After a six-run first inning, the Orioles added runs in the second, third and fifth innings before tallying two runs in the sixth for a walk-off, runrule victory.
Kacy Kratz earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete-game shutout while allowing six hits and striking out five over six innings. Sierra Loosen went 3-for-4 at the place, as Kendall Battist and Kratz added two hits each while Brooke Voss homered in the win.
The Orioles now advance to Thursday’s regional final against West Bend West.
Suns’ season sets at Beaver Dam
BEAVER DAM — The West Bend East softball team saw its season come to a close on Tuesday with a 6-4 loss to Beaver Dam in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal.
The Suns end their season at 9-17 overall, and 8-10 in North Shore Conference action.
Kewaskum outlasts Ripon
KEWASKUM — The Kewaskum softball team defended its home field on Tuesday, defeating Ripon 4-1 in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal.
The Indians will now face East Central Conference rival Kettle Moraine Lutheran in a regional final on Thursday at Kewaskum.
Owls fly into regional finals
SLINGER — Playing on its home field, the Slinger softball team advanced to Thursday’s regional final with a 6-3 victory over Mantiowoc Lincoln on Tuesday.
The Owls will head on the road to face No. 2 Watertown on Thursday as they try to punch their ticket to sectional play.
Suns tie for first at subsectional
WEST BEND — The West Bend East boys tennis team shared top honors with Sheboygan North at the WIAA Division 1 West Bend West Subsectional on Tuesday, as both teams racked up 20 points on the day.
Hartford wasn’t far off the pace with 14 points, while West Bend West had eight and Slinger four.
The Suns pushed through five of their seven flights to Thursday’s Oshkosh North Sectional. That included their top doubles pairing of Max Mollwitz and John Pfaff, who won 6-0, 6-3 over Ben Beumler and Miseal Gonzales of Sheboygan South.
At three singles, East’s Landon Better went 2-0 to advance. He beat West’s Simone Rich 6-1, 6-0, then Sheboygan North’s Adam Pickhardt 6-3, 6-1 in the second round. Pierce Reiner also won both of his four singles matches, beating Drew Carlson of Port Washington 6-2, 6-2 before knocking of West’s Landon Sickler 6-2, 6-0.
Each of East’s doubles flights moved on. At two doubles, Killian McNulty and Dawson Peterson advanced to the second round by default, then defeated Alex Wittnebel and Riley Doyle of Beaver Dam 6-3, 6-0. At three doubles, Tyler Tennis and Sam Wiedmeyer went 2-0, first winning 6-3, 6-1 over Devon White and Jorand Culp of Sheboygan South, then defeating Ethan Schmeling and Grayson Jacoby of Slinger 6-1, 7-5.
The Orioles were also able to push four flights past subsectional competition, including its topthree singles flights. Aaron Hoffman (No. 1) defeated West’s Jacob Downs 6-0, 6-1. Owen Otto (No. 2) didn’t drop a game, dispatching Port Washington’s Wes Hoag and East’s Carter Disch, nor did Ethan Hoffman (No. 3), who conquered Port’s Cash Didier and South’s Aiden Blomwillis.
At four singles, Hartford’s Ryan Schwartz won his opening match 6-0, 6-0 over BD’s Lorenzo Tesch, but was swept in the second round. Teammates Brady Kuepper and Sean McCune teamed together at one doubles to win 6-2, 7-5 against Slinger’s Ryan McLaughlin and Matthew Smith.
The Spartans won several matches but only their one doubles team of Keegan Kainz and Traynor Gieryn advanced, as they rallied to upset George Phillips and Gavin Seefeldt of Sheboygan North 1-6, 6-3, 10-7. At two doubles, Brady Fox and Evan Pitzen won 6-4, 6-0 in the opening round over Joe Sepanic and Lucas Poull of Port, but lost in straight sets in the second round. Alec Pitzen and Tyler Sternig suffered the same fate at three doubles, knocking off Hartford’s Luke Gauthier and Sam Stachura 6-3, 6-2 before losing in the second round.
Moving on to sectional play for the Owls is Jon Olafsson, who took down East’s Ethan Dricken 6-1, 7-6(2) in one singles.
Warhawks finish second at subsectional
GERMANTOWN — Germantown’s boys tennis team finished second only behind Homestead with 14 points at its host WIAA Division 2 subsectional on Tuesday.
The Highlanders advanced all seven flights and tallied 24 points.
The Warhawks won their opening matches in six of seven flights but only advanced two to Thursday’s Marquette Sectional. Those honors went to Germantown’s one doubles team of Conner Pallan and Cole Neinas, which held on for a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 win over Luke Paulson and Luke Johnson of Whitefish Bay; and the two doubles pairing of Casey Emerson and Adam Emerson, which received a firstround bye prior to sweeping Nicolet’s Cash Adleman and Tyler Klug 6-1, 60.
At two singles, Trevor Newkirk beat Cedarburg’s Nick Claditis 7-5, 6-1, then fell in straight sets in the second round. Top-seeded Sam Schilder got a bye in three singles, but was upset in a super-tiebreaker 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 by Cedarburg’s Eli Netz. Braeden Sinden pulled off a minor upset at four singles, winning 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 in the opening round, then nearly did the same against Homestead’s Actin Shooshtarizadeh, but fell 2-6, 6-1, 10-8.
The Warhawks’ three doubles team of Will Wagner and James Goetter beat Cedarburg’s Flynn Evans and Charlie Plante 6-3, 7-6(1), then were swept in the second round.
