Reading fans are feeling optimistic as journalist Alan Nixon issues a promising update on the club’s search for a new boss.
Nixon, who initially broke the story about Reading’s interest in the 55 year old, wrote an update in response to a fan wanting some clarity.
He posted: “Can’t see a problem unless another club comes in … and that threat might explain the urgency [to get a deal done].”

Wilder recently departed as Watford manager, but has a wealth of managerial experience behind him starting from 2001 onwards, with stints at Halifax, Oxford, Northampton, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.
Ex-Reading player Noel Hunt was appointed on an interim basis after the Royals sacked Ince late on in the season but ultimately, the club couldn’t avoid the drop with a points deduction and results not going their way.
Reading will play in the third tier for the first since 2001/02, and they are looking for a new manager for their first team after Hunt replaced Paul Ince as under-23s coach for the last five games of the year.
The Royals were relegated after they finished 22nd in a season that saw the EFL deduct six points for the second time in a row.
Rumours have it that Reading’s potential manager Chris Wilder spoke about his turbulent time at Watford before his next managerial venture.
The ex-Sheffield United manager, who completed a 11-game stint as the Hornets’ boss and is the odds-on favourite for the Select Car Leasing Stadium outfit.
“I’m having a week off now, and although this has been a challenging last 12 months, it’s been one that I can massively reflect upon first and foremost,” said Wilder as per RDG.Today.
“Then I’ll go again. My hunger, desire and work ethic hasn’t changed.
“It was there all the time I was at Watford. I slept at night knowing I put every ounce I had into it.
“Whatever has happened in this last year will stand me in good stead and I still want to manage at the top end of English football. My passion for that is still there.”
Despite having a tough time of it at Watford, Wilder remains adamant that his passion for the game still remains ahead of his next challenge in management.
The Hornets, who had three managers throughout the 2022/23 Championship season, had a troubled second-half of the season and finished in 11th.
He continued: “If you’re so bruised and battered that you lose your appetite, and instead of getting into work at 7.30 you’re getting in at 9, and you find yourself taking shortcuts.
“If I ever get to that stage then I’ll know that’ll be time to come out of it.
“If I got to that stage then I wouldn’t be doing justice to myself or the club I was working for.
“But I don’t have any of those feelings at all. I’m ready and raring to go back in.
“I know the type of club I need to work with and be aligned to, and this experience has given me a good insight into a lot of things.
“I never look back at any experience and see it as a bad experience. I just see things I can learn from so I can try to be better.”
Talk that Wilder to Reading is supposedly going to be announced comes a day after Chris Wilder was reportedly ‘still interested’ in the Hearts job despite previously appearing to rule himself out, according to Football Scotland.
In an interview with the Watford Observer earlier in May, he said: “Whatever has happened in this last year will stand me in good stead, and I still want to manage at the top end of English football. My passion for that is still there.”
However, the Daily Record says the job Tynecastle remains ‘an attractive option’ for Wilder, suggesting he has not closed the door on a switch just yet.
