St. Peter’s Art Show returns July 1 in Lewes

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes will host its 57th annual art show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 1 for the benefit of local outreach. 

Artists’ booths will line the block surrounding the church at Second and Market streets, with dozens more in the M&T Bank parking lot at Third and Market streets. Visitors will find additional booths in front of St. Peter’s rectory at Mulberry and 2nd Streets. Admission is free, and the show takes place rain or shine.

Begun as a clothesline art show in 1966, the event is one of the oldest and finest outdoor art shows in the Mid-Atlantic region, featuring over 115 artists and artisans from Delmarva and beyond. Several new exhibitors will join longtime participants displaying original paintings, photographs, jewelry, carvings, ceramics, mixed-media creations and more.

Activities for children will be available.

Featured artists raffle tickets are $2 each or $20 for 12. Tickets can be purchased from the raffle ticket table on St. Peter’s patio the day of the show. Separate drawings will be held for each item beginning at 2:30 p.m. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win. Raffle proceeds go toward local music scholarships distributed by the St. Cecilia Music Guild to a local graduating high school senior.

A silent auction of works donated by show exhibitors will be set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., inside the parish hall.

Pre-packaged snacks, along with cold drinks, will be for sale on the patio. Shade and air conditioning will be available in St. Peter’s 19th-century church building, where T.J. Thomas, parish music director, will give an interactive demonstration of the church’s organ at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and  Jeffrey Ross, St. Peter’s rector, will lead tours of the historic site at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Free parking for the art show will be available at Cape Henlopen High School on Kings Highway, Lewes, with shuttle service from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., provided courtesy of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty and Lewes Senior Activity Center.

St. Peter’s Church, founded in 1681, offers four eucharistic services weekly. The 10 a.m. Sunday service is in person, and is also broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook Live. Morning prayer at 9 a.m. and evening prayer at 5 p.m. are broadcast on Facebook live Monday through Friday.

St. Peter’s offers an interfaith Summer Spirituality Series at 7 p.m.,Thursdays. Self-guided tour information for the historic churchyard is available.
