A spokesperson for Cheney School said: “The students thought carefully about how they wanted the signs to look, and chose their favourite trees, including their Latin name, three adjectives describing the tree, and a couple of sentences with facts about the tree species.

“The signs also have a metal plaque with an engraving of the leaf of the tree, so visitors can make rubbings of the leaf shapes.”

The trees include a yew tree, for which Stephen Fry created a voice-over, a horse chestnut, a cherry tree, with a voice provided by Anneliese Dodds, a holly tree and a beech tree.

All voice-overs can be listened to here:

The signs are part of a wider national museum project funded by the Wild Escape Project, which Cheney’s Rumble Museum took part in this year.

The tree trail signs were officially unveiled at the tree trail opening morning between 9.30 and 11.30am on Saturday, June 17, which included a trail map, activities and refreshments.

The signs were made and installed by Greenspace Designs Ltd.
