Swansea revealed as one of the most organised cities in UK when preparing for a holiday

With the holiday rush upon us, many of us are excited to be jetting off to somewhere new – whether it be a week or two chilling by the beach or a few days exploring a brand-new city. No matter where you’re going – love it or hate it, there’s always some level of planning that needs to be done, whether it be planning an itinerary, setting a budget or deciding what you’re going to wear.

With this in mind, travel experts at SkyParkSecure ran a survey of 1500 Brits to discover how prepared we are as a nation when it comes to planning and preparing for our holidays.

38% of Brits set themselves a budget for their holidays

It was revealed that just over 1/3 of Brits will set themselves a budget for any holiday they go on, whilst travellers are twice as likely to set themselves a budget for a longer holiday lasting more than 7 days (26%) than for a shorter holiday (13%).

The results also revealed that considerably more women (44%) will set themselves a budget compared to men (34%).

Over half of women in the UK plan their outfits in advance

Building our summer wardrobe is one of the most exciting parts of summer and going on holiday – the survey revealed that 38% of Brits find themselves planning their holiday outfits in advance, with women being more likely too (52%) than men (25%).

A quarter of Brits plan a detailed itinerary for their trips

Results revealed that 25% of Brits will plan a detailed itinerary for their holiday – with 23% planning restaurants and activities in advance. To add to this – over half of us (57%) will head to social media to find the best recommendations.

Site or App  % of Brits who use it for recommendations
TripAdvisor  65%
Facebook  41%
Instagram  36%
TikTok  27%
Other travel sites  19%
Twitter  13%
Reddit  7%
Other review sites  2%

Overall, TripAdvisor was the most popular platform for Brits, with 65% using it for recommendations, followed by Facebook (41%) and Instagram (36%). However, the results also showed that 69% of travellers between the ages of 16-24 now use TikTok for recommendations.

The cities most prepared for their holidays

So, now we know that women tend to be more prepared than men, and that overall people will plan more for longer holidays, which city is the most organised? It turns out it’s Aberdeen, with 54% of people agreeing they would always do everything from planning an itinerary, to sorting their outfits, and booking travel insurance.

The Northern Irish city of Lisburn, and Welsh Newport aren’t far behind, at 53.1%; and Southampton, Swansea, and Warrington come next, at 50%.

At the other end of the spectrum, Sunderland citizens are the least prepared, with just 25.7% saying they’d get organised in advance, followed by Carlisle, Bradford, Cardiff, and Leicester.

So, just how prepared are you compared to the rest of the British population? Do you love to plan everything from what outfits you’re going to wear each day, to which restaurants you’re going to dine in; or do you prefer to take a more spontaneous approach and see what you want to do once you’ve reached your destination?
