RED BLUFF— Tehama County Director of Environmental Health Tia Braton swung by the supervisors meeting Tuesday to provide an update on the dry wells in the area.

So far, environmental health has had 307 wells registered with them, while the North Valley Community Foundation has already served more than 100. Braton said 93 of them have drilled new wells, while about 114 are in a waiting status while environmental health tries to figure out what to do for them.

Braton recently received good news Monday from the North Valley Community Foundation as they applied for and are in the process of receiving an additional $1.8 million that can be used for remediation.

“What they are going to be able to do is when a person calls and say that they have a dry well, they are going to have to go up and figure out what is going on with their well,” she added. “Because it is not always a water problem. Sometimes it’s the pump; sometimes it’s going to be, there’s a lot of things.”

North Valley Community Foundation is waiting for a contract amendment to be completed before proceeding.

Braton has contacted the California Department of Water Resources for funding to drill wells at three of the county parks currently being used to get water. The state called her yesterday and said that they would look into that.

“So now we actually have to fill out a true application, and so hopefully that is done by this week, then we will  move forward, and we will be able to get some grant money for three new levels to help with the homeowner program.”
