The colourful Nottingham cafe that’s perfect for sitting outside in the sun

It’s getting warmer so there’s no need to sit indoors if you can help it. We’ve found the perfect cafe in Hockley where you can bask in the sun and get some mouth-watering lunch as community reporter Keimae Blake reports…

This summer, I’m looking forward to picnics in The Arboretum, lighter nights and sitting in a beer garden with friends or family. Amongst the hustle and bustle of one of the so-described ‘coolest’ areas in the UK is the cafe, Yolk.

The colourful cafe serving lunch time classics will not disappoint you and, for caffeine lovers, Yolk sells quality coffee all served in bright yellow, uplifting mugs. Hockley has many places to go for a coffee: the Hockley Kitchen, Dispatch, the Ugly Bread Bakery – all of which I’ve been to so I was excited to try Yolk for the first time.

On arrival, the cafe that has subtle touches of the colour yellow. And all around was packed with people sitting outside and in so I thought I’d sit in the sun for a change.

Although the sun kept disappearing behind clouds on this day, usually I don’t like sitting outside; I’ll be swatting away flies and God forbid if I see a bug or anything like that because I’ll be off. Luckily for me, there were no insects in sight and, after ordering a £3.80 mocha and French toast with maple bacon for a tenner, I sat outside watching people come in and out of the Sue Ryder shop across the road or walking up towards Carlton Street.

Whether you want to work, read a book or catch up with a friend, Yolk is the perfect location for all three. Bringing water and my mocha to the table was a lovely member of staff who asked how I was and if there’s anything else I needed.
