The Repair Shop fans break down at ‘most important episode in show’s history’

FANS of The Repair Shop broke down in tears at the ‘most important episode in show’s history.’

The BBC Show follows a workshop led by furniture restorer Jay Blades where damaged and broken heirlooms are restored to their former glory.

However, the most recent episode commemorated the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in the UK in 1948.

The special edition was built around the celebration of the legacy of the Windrush Generation and those that appeared brought in items of sentimental value to their relatives.

This was in honour of the commemorative day which occurred on Thursday June 22, which honoured the Caribbean community and their contributions to society in the UK.

Beverley Dixon brought the weathered passport that her father was issued in Jamaica back in 1948.

Keithly brought an old suitcase into the shop, which was known as The Grip.

The case was owned by his mother Locita which she wanted to take back to the West Indies on a trip.

Also presented to the team was a clock by brother and sister duo, Stephen and Dorcas, which was owned by their parents Hermann and Keturah.

The mother and father purchased the timepiece after first arriving in the UK from Antigua and the siblings wanted to hear it chime again.

Meanwhile, the programme welcomed a very special guest, Patrick Vernon OBE who is known as the man behind Windrush Day.

He led the successful campaign for the 22 June to be recognised annually from 2018 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Windrush migration.

The activist and social commentator carried a radiogram that used to belong to his late friend Eddie Noble, which was a gift he received after his pal’s RAF service.

All the items were restored beautifully as Beverly received a specially-made case to preserve her father’s passport, which looked like it was in mint condition.

The Grip which was brought by Keithly contained new lining on the inside of the bag, which could also be peeled back to admire the original craftsmanship.

It was an emotional moment for Stephen and Dorcas who were taken back to their childhood when they heard the clock chime again, as well as for Patrick when the radiogram once again played music tunefully.

And fans took to social media in their droves as they broke down in tears whilst they praised the show for the important message.

One viewer wrote: “#therepairshop -Windrush Special…what an amazing,brilliant show tonight…such incredible,moving stories❤️❤️.”

A second exclaimed: “Thank you so much @TheRepairShop literally been bawling my eyes out the entire programme!.”

“One of the best and most important episodes of #therepairshop it was a truly amazing programme,” penned a third.
