Welcome Callum Mackay! – Berwick Rangers Football Club

Talented young defender Callum Mackay has signed for Berwick Rangers next season, further strengthening Stuart Malcolm’s Wee ‘Gers squad ahead of the new campaign.

Mackay arrives on a pre-contract from Park’s Motor Group Lowland League champions The Spartans, where he impressed for both the under 20s team and the first XI. He won the Manager’s Player of the Year Award for the Under 20s side, and also impressed at centre back for Spartans in their 0-0 draw with Berwick in April, at Shielfield Park.

Manager Stuart Malcolm said, ‘I am absolutely delighted to sign Callum for Berwick. We identified him as a target early on in our scouting, and our interest was cemented with the performance he put in against us at the end of the season. He is very quick, a great defender and good in the air. Callum is good on the ball, and can also play as a left back, which helps us – we’ve really been trying hard to recruit players who can play a number of positions. He’s not the finished article yet, but he is a young, hungry professional who wants to do better and play first team games. I believe he’s got loads of potential, so we’re ecstatic to sign Callum.’

Callum Mackay will have a first opportunity to meet his new Berwick team mates next week when first team training resumes. The first Berwick Rangers friendly is on 1 July against East of Scotland Premier outfit Haddington Athletic.
