Where Alexis Mac Allister could fit at Liverpool this summer as cousin ‘confirms’ transfer

Liverpool transfer target Alexis Mac Allister certainly comes from a footballing family. His father Carlos played as a left-back in his native Argentina between 1987 and 1999, where two of his older brothers are in action today.

Twenty-five-year-old Kevin plays as a center-back for Argentinos Juniors, and 27-year-old Francis operates as a defensive midfielder for Rosario Central.

On top of that, Mac Allister also has a cousin, Luciano Guaycochea, plying his trade in the Malaysian top-flight with Perak — and he might have offered a clue as to where Alexis will end up this summer.

A 31-year-old attacking midfielder, Guaycochea has had stints in Argentina, Turkey, Venezuela, Colombia and Bolivia during his career.

And now, in an interview with Stadium Astro journalist Karl Nunis, Mac Allister’s cousin has ‘leaked the secret’ of his family member’s next move in an exciting update for Liverpool fans.

“I cannot say where he’s going to play, but I think everyone knows he’s close to [joining] Liverpool.”

You can watch the full clip below, which has caught the attention of plenty of Reds fans on social media, and is captioned as being ‘confirmation’ of the deal, which appears to be edging closer.

Liverpool.com says: Signing Mac Allister would be a perfect start to a crucial transfer window for Liverpool after a hugely disappointing fifth-place finish in 2022/23.

It’s been a truly special season for the midfielder, who started all but one game for Argentina en route to World Cup glory, assisting a goal in the final against France, and then returned to help Brighton qualify for European competition for the first time in its history.

Having been one of the outstanding players in the division, he earned a nomination for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award.

He’s clearly ready to make the step up to the very highest level, and could go on to establish himself as world-class at Anfield. And one of his biggest attributes is that he can play in a variety of positions in midfield.

Comfortable as a holding player, a box-to-box man or further forward as something closer to a number 10, Mac Allister would instantly improve Liverpool in all areas and be the perfect beginning with at least one more midfield signing to follow.
