Adrian Newey Hints at Retirement After Max Verstappen Wins 100th Race for Red Bull

Adrian Newey, the mastermind behind Red Bull’s aerodynamics, has hinted at retirement, saying that he had “borrowed time” left in the sport. Three decades into his career, Newey won his 200th Formula One race on June 18. He has designed many championship-winning F1 vehicles, notably Mika Hakkinen’s McLarens from 1998 and 1999 and the Williamses piloted by Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, and Damon Hill in the 1990s. The aerodynamics whiz really found his stride with Red Bull’s off-throttle blown diffuser in the early 2010s, when the team won four consecutive championships with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel. Since he has already reached the pinnacle of design, there is nothing further for him to prove. Therefore, it will be challenging for Newey to maintain his motivation and come up with the greatest innovations to keep his team at the top. That’s why Newey says he can’t keep working forever.

F1: What did Adrian Newey say?

In the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, Newey oversaw the team’s 100th race victory by having Red Bull driver Max Verstappen pilot his designs to victory. To Newey, the trip and its events seemed strange when he reflected on them after returning home.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Andrien Newey expressed gratitude for the opportunity to pursue his passion. He is really happy in his current position. He will continue his profession for as long as the team needs him and he enjoys it. He said that his career is on the countdown. He has not yet decided on a specific retirement date. Christian Horner, the team’s principal, was pleased after Red Bull won their 100th Formula One race.
