Super League Team of the Week: Six clubs feature and star features after FOUR assists
The latest round of Super League action has been and gone.
The action started with a shock result at the MKM Stadium.
Hull FC avenged their defeat to St Helens in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a thumping 34-6 win over the Super League and World Champions.
On Friday night, Castleford Tigers copied Hull with a shock result against Warrington Wolves with Gareth Widdop and Jack Broadbent the heroes.
Elsewhere on Friday, Hull KR claimed a routine win over Wakefield Trinity in Luke Gale’s debut.
That, coupled with Castleford’s win, was a damaging weekend for Wakefield.
Damaging too for Huddersfield Giants and Ian Watson as Leeds Rhinos ran in nine tries for a great 54-0 win.
On Saturday, two of the the top three collided in a classic between Catalans Dragons and Leigh Leopards.
Catalans edged the game 38-30 after Leigh battled back from 20-0 down.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Salford Red Devils lost out to Wigan Warriors.
But who makes the team of the week?
Fullback: Richie Myler (Leeds Rhinos)
Four assists and a try. A simple must in the team of the week. He was also key to creating a further try for Rhyse Martin at the end. He was only not involved in three tries for the Rhinos.
Wingers: David Fusitu’a (Leeds Rhinos) & Tom Johnstone (Catalans Dragons)
Two tries each for these two. Fusitu’a took both of his tries magnificently and carried the ball brilliantly. Tom Johnstone meanwhile wrapped up the win for the Dragons.
Centres: Tom Opacic (Hull KR) & Carlos Tuimavave (Hull FC)
A brace of tries for Tom Opacic as he continued to be brilliantly consistent for the Robins. Over on the other side of Hull Carlos Tuimavave was also excellent and notched a key try.
Halfbacks: Blake Austin (Leeds Rhinos) & Jake Clifford (Hull FC)
Two players who underpinned great wins for their sides. Blake Austin perhaps one of the best performances you will see this season with two of the best assists of the season. Meanwhile, Jake Clifford organised Hull FC brilliantly against the Champions.
Props: Brad Fash (Hull FC) & Sam Walters (Leeds Rhinos)
Brad Fash was also key in the win for Hull FC. He matched the Saints pack brilliantly. Meanwhile, Sam Walters notched a brace of tries and was excellent with every carry.
Hooker: Edwin Ipape (Leigh Leopards)
Another try scorer and a key component of Leigh’s amazing turn around.
Second-Rowers: Andre Savelio (Hull FC) and Liam Farrell (Wigan Warriors)
Arguably the best try scoring forward in Super League history Liam Farrell scored a further two tries for Wigan. Meanwhile, Andre Savelio was outstanding for Hull as he claimed the Man of the Match.
Loose-Forward: Ben Garcia (Catalans Dragons)
The match winner for Catalans, a true captain’s knock from Garcia.
